Line Rider started as a flash game in which you had to guide a boy on a sled through a whole series of complex courses. The PC release of the game has an added Story mode, track options and a feature to share all your work. The basic premise of the game remains the same in nature.
Instead of controlling the boy, your work is to fill in the gaps on long, winding courses. It is a difficult game to learn but offers a lot of satisfaction when you finally figure out the tracks. It takes time to understand exactly how the mechanics work but are easy when you get the hang of them. The physics of the game are kind of hyper, considering even the smallest bump can have you flying through the air. The story mode works to help you start the game and click with it. But if the pre-made levels become frustrating, you can always start to create your own tracks. These can be shared online but you have to be able to solve it on your own first.
The game has satisfying visuals that have a cartoon-like feel to it. The characters have been designed in detail and the tracks are well made. If you have the patience to understand how the mechanics work, this game will offer a surprising amount of fun and value.
